Farewell 2018!

Happy Holidays!
As we slide into the end of yet another year, again out of breath and working up until the last .. I really truly want to wish all that have assisted, and those we have met, for their patronage, for their help, and for their eternal support.
Little Big Adventures is a venture of fun days and long nights, of a lot of work and a lot of gratitude.
I thank you all. The photographers that lighten my days and keep me in good company, my editors that know all the different kinds of boogers and the remarkable places lunch can reach, the educators in the field, who are steadfastly the victors of children everywhere, and the Directors that continue to support me.
Thanks also parents, your little notes and emails of thanks always come at the right moments when needed most, and thankyou to the children, who continue to light up my life, make me laugh, and keep me entertained and smiling, you're all champions.
May your holidays be sweet and filled with family, friends, and people you love. May your table be laden and your hearts and bellies full.
Thankyou so much Xx

Got me in the Feels.

Not many people know this about me, but in my Uni days I sought and accepted a food voucher from a local charity.

I had no money and I was thin & hungry and although I was getting assistance from the Government in the form of Austudy, most/all of this went on Uni fees and rent and books.  I only did it the once and I was deeply ashamed because I was young and healthy, and studying Psychology at Uni - I mean, how WhiteGirl can you get - how hard can it be, right?

Just get a freaking job already.

But I came from the country and the closest Unis were nowhere near me.  My father refused to give me any money as he felt Education should be free and the Govt should support me.  A friend's mother signed a Stat Dec so I could receive Austudy so I could go to Uni.  That stat dec said I was financially disowned by my family, or something to that effect.  My homelife was pretty crap, to tell the truth and school was my respite, but on offical papers, we probably didnt look unusual.

After I left, the family imploded anyway, so it turns out I really was homeless.

The cheapest Uni to study Psychology ( meaning: where I could afford to rent ) was miles away from everywhere - very isolated.  You kinda needed money to travel to town to earn money so the two cancelled each other out.  Plus the study, right?  It's hard to learn and pay all the bills, cook the 2min noodles ( or pretend to eat - I already ate today, oh, im not hungry ) and succeed at life.

So I think after 3yrs living like this I was at rock bottom and accepted a voucher and bought all the food ( I remember buying No-Name Honey Tiny Teddies with my voucher - a huge splurge! - and feeling like i'd won the lottery ).  At the cash register the check out chick acepted my voucher and said "this cant be used for cigarettes or alcohol" and I said "I know", but there was none in my trolley.. it really was just food & neccessities - basics - calculated carefully to marry with the amount on the voucher with nary a cent over or under, but she felt the need to let me know anyway - and everyone else in the queue.  That was nice.

In my life i've worked really hard - in fact, I really do love to be productive and work - work is distracting and if you do well, people say nice things, so as a result, and via avenues of good luck and fortune along the way, i've done ok.  The road has been long, hard, and I never want to be hungry again ( I think I work so hard as it absolutely terrifies me, to be honest - what the young can endure is far more than these old bones today! )

I've been involved with charities in the past, donating time or money, but we just had our WorldVision child move on in life after 14yrs in sponsorship, and I declined taking on another.
So i've been looking for something else and i've been moved by the Smith Family's support of disadvantaged kids in Australia getting educational resources and support and it's really resonated with me, and especially from my work within the early childhood learning network, it feels like a good fit.

So today, rather than sponsor a child directly, i'm going to be directing a monthly percentage of all Little Big Adventures profits to giving all Australian kids a good go at life and education and normalcy and hopefully seeing a future beyond what's in front of them now.  I've tried to explain to my own kids - if they need new pencils, new shoes, $5 or want to go on an excursion - we can do that for them, but many kids just learn not to ask, not to bother their parents.  They retreat, develop bravado methods to cope ( I don't care anyway, who wants to go on a stupid excursion anyway?! ) or just make themselves as small and unnoticeable as possible.  If no-one asks them about their feelings, then those feelings don't exist, right?

I'm feeling really good about finding a fit that makes my heart sing.

If you'd like to do a little bit of good too, you can look here and see if there's something that takes your fancy: https://charity-gifts.thesmithfamily.com.au/support-a-childs-learning

I'm hoping maybe with the new website ( yes, I know, it's next year now, all the things! ) I can automatically make it a visual thing where you can see your kinder order adding a little sparkle out there in the world .. we shall see..

but Today, I am happy.

2017 and Our First Giveaway!

Back to Work!

Well, we've been back at work for a while now, but February is a time for planning and marketing, and basically the only month we get where we're not frantically photographing and editing all the kiddos!

It's one of my favourite times of the year as I touch base with kinders and daycares, lock in dates and get all the ducks in a row.  As promised last year when I gave away a massive framed print on our facebook page, i've got a whole calendar of happiness on the charts and it makes me so happy to have so much in store for 2017
To claim your free printable download for Feb/March, simply click below and it's pinned to the top of our facebook page .. easy peasy!  I hope you like it, i'm a little bit chuffed by how good it turned out..

In other news, if your kinder or daycare centre hasnt booked your photographer yet, you'd better hotfoot it before all booking dates are gone.  We're in the field every week of the school terms and there's only a few dates left!  Again, you can find the details on the Little Big Adventures Facebook Page ( or call us, or email us!  )

We really look forward to visiting your centre and seeing you and your little ones.

Cheers,
Leanne

End of Year Shenanigans: Melbourne Kinder and Daycare Photography

It's that time of year again, when everything starts to speed up NOW!

Melbourne Kindy Photos
Yikes!

Considering I just finished my last kinder last week and it normally takes 2 weeks to edit and deliver 100 galleries, then 2 weeks for parents to choose and get their orders in and 2 weeks again to deliver ..

Umm .. 4 weeks until Christmas everybody!
I have 200 little faces I will be working hard on to get out to you in record speed, but you'll need to do your bit to help me help you also.

I'll be editing all those beautiful faces in a week or so of no rest, no sleep.

Melbourne Daycare Photos

Then you can order them all in the next week after that, and i'll deliver them the week after.

What do you say?  Is it a deal?
Can we share the load and pull the sleigh together?

I hope so.
Little Big Adventures kinder photographs are more than just kindy pics .. they are are collection of images of your children at work and play, but also beautiful private-session quality images suitable for gifting, framing and display.

We even have an array for frames available for last minute gifts.

Let's Do This Together.

Little Big Adventures on Social Media

Social Media is a great way to keep abreast of things you need to know, or to look at pretty images to inspire and delight, perhaps a media article .. or even a reminder/update!

Smart phones mean we can catch up while inhaling the chlorine at swimming lessons, or while waiting for that dental appointment, so we'd like to travel along with you.

Little Big Adventures is a little old-school, less hipster .. we've never quite got the hang of instagram ( although we're trying! ), but we're long-time bloggers, tweeters and facebookers, so that's where you'll find us at the moment.

Our facebook page went live this week with a rush of friends and clients logging in to say hi and stay updated.  This is the place for quick words, sneak peeks ( where permitted ) and little snippets of life.
It's probably our favourite place and if it's your thing, facebook will be the place most updated :)

Twitter is quicker!  It's the place for hurricane updates, traffic reports and hot reminders.
Well, that sounds a bit boring, so maybe not .. I like to keep up-to-date on all things Melbourne and things to do for kids via twitter, and pass on anything good that I find ...

The Blog!  You're already here - hurrah!  This is where I like to use my words and talk about bigger things, muse and let my mind wander.  Also a place for pictures, of course ( of course! ).

So a place for everything, and everything in it's place.
Instagram and tweeting for when i'm out and about via the i-phone, and facebook and the blog for more considered "big computer" work.

Let's see how we go!  :)

Little Big Adventures

Melbourne Kindergarten, Daycare and PreSchool Photography Specialists
A cute kinder dance sequence from 2015

OOh, I like the name, what's all this about then?

Thanks!

Little Big Adventures is a derivative offshoot of Leanne Bertram Photography.
"Little Big" is not only the initials of the principal photogapher ( aka: that would be me ), but is also a nod to the Little Big characters I get to meet on a daily basis, and the Adventures we have together as we take some beautiful images and make kinder memories.

To paraphrase Shakespeare: "and though they be but little, they are fierce"

Yes, never mess with a pre-schooler.  The knock me out of the playground with their self-assured personalities, ideas and ability to do all the things at once, now.  They can tell you about the fate of the Orangutans, or why cutting trumps pasting anyday.  They love to talk about their families, and pets, and will share their honest opinion about anything that comes to mind.

Based in Bentleigh, Bayside Melbourne, Leanne has been working within the local community for over a decade now.  Taking images and headshots for small business, and images to treasure forever for families and children, she loves the local connection and small town feel of bumping into clients in the street, or at the school where her own children attend.  For the past 4years she's been working further afield in kinders, daycares and preschool centres, and this year, in 2016, it's time to regroup and stay closer to home.

By keeping the playing field local, Leanne's services cannot be surpassed.  She's hands-on and can tailor services around your kinder's needs, and nothing is ever too much trouble.  Leanne brings with her a great team of photographers, editors, and office staff, all with relevant police checks and amazing skill sets, and she ensures no child is left behind.

That's our promise to you.
With a smile.

We look forward to seeing you soon x

Cheers,
Leanne
